DPBB - Digital Design, Construction and Operation

Construction Site Tour at Duisburg Comprehensive School

Civil engineering students were accompanied on a site visit to Duisburg as part of the “BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING (BIM) – Focus on Sustainability” module offered by the DPBB Department of Civil Engineering. There, the construction company Klebl GmbH is currently building the “SD-Gesamtschule Didier” for approximately 690 students, along with an accompanying five-court sports hall - all planned using the BIM method.

Bernhard Heilmeier and Andreas Brenske from the construction company Klebl provided us with a detailed insight into construction site planning and project specifics, as well as the BIM process in particular:

  • How do digital models support the planning and construction process?
  • How do different disciplines collaborate digitally?
  • How is BIM used in practice to analyze and improve ecological, economic, and social sustainability aspects throughout the entire life cycle of a building?

The highlight for all participants was, of course, the joint tour of the large construction site - currently still in the shell phase - under a bright blue sky and sunshine - perfect!

Many thanks to the Klebl company for the exciting insights!
