From September 7 to 11, 2026, the International Structural Engineering and Construction Society’s EURO SEC 6 Conference was held at the Politecnico di Torino.

Under the theme “Cutting-edge Technologies and Management in Structural Engineering and Construction,” researchers from around the world gathered to present the latest research findings, discuss innovative approaches, and exchange ideas on highly relevant issues in the construction industry.

The Digital Planning, Construction, and Operations research group was also represented at the conference with three presentations:

- In his presentation “DATA LEAN LOGISTICS: ONTOLOGY-BASED EXECUTION-ORIENTED CONSTRUCTION CONTROLLING”, Mohannad Esmail presented research findings on an ontology-based controlling approach that harmonizes synergies between construction logistics and execution processes using Lean Construction methods, the BIM method, and other digital transformation concepts such as the Internet of Things (IoT).

- In their presentation “CONSISTENT DATA FLOWS IN CONSTRUCTION. DIGITAL PRODUCT PASSPORTS FOR EFFICIENCY, TRANSPARENCY, AND SUSTAINABILITY”, Franziska Schmidt and Nadja Gravina demonstrated how consistent data flows between various stakeholders can be established. The focus was on how the Digital Product Passport can help close existing process and information gaps in various use cases and generate concrete added value as a result.

- In his presentation “A FRAMEWORK FOR DESCRIBING DIGITAL DATA TRANSACTIONS IN CONSTRUCTION PROCESSES FOR DATASPACE IMPLEMENTATION”, Christopher Schwab presented a methodological approach for the structured documentation of industry-specific processes and information as a basis for implementing a data space in the construction industry.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the organizers and to all participants for the successful conference, the engaging discussions, and the international academic exchange.
