Successful Launch of the New “BIM Campus” Course in Collaboration with the Vienna University of Technology
In cooperation with the Vienna University of Technology, a new three-phase teaching format will be implemented for the first time in the winter semester 2026/2027 with bachelor’s and master’s students in civil engineering from Wuppertal and Vienna. This long-term program brings together students from European universities to learn, work, and network, and provides in-depth insights into the application of BIM in construction projects.
Phase 1 – Kickoff in Wuppertal
The participants have completed five intensive days of getting to know one another, team-building, and extensive BIM training. The program included:
- Keynote presentations offering insights into the BIM methodology
- A construction site excursion to the Areal Böhler-Werke in Düsseldorf - a presentation on BIM application by the Vollack Group
- BIMsprint – A quick introduction to BIM software in the form of a digital simulation game
An all-around successful kickoff: The week was marked by good collaboration, lively discussions, and the teams’ launch into project work and the upcoming Phase 2.
Phase 2 – Digital Teamwork
Starting immediately, the teams from Wuppertal and Vienna will work collaboratively on the project assignment via digital platforms, developing innovative solutions using BIM methods. Regular office hours will provide opportunities for questions, feedback, and support.
Phase 3 – Conclusion in Vienna
The course concludes at the Vienna University of Technology with the completion of the project and a formal presentation of the results.
Thanks to everyone involved: the students, Harald Urban, and Christian Schranz at the Vienna University of Technology; and once again, a heartfelt thank you to the client Martin Honak of Areal Böhler, as well as Klaus Teizer, Martin Kenneweg, Gül Özsoy, Kambiz Hajizadeh-Zake, and Dominic Piller of the Vollack Group for making the field trip possible.
We look forward to continuing with Phase 2 and to the final week in Vienna!
