Construct-X heralds a new phase in the digitalisation of the construction industry
Funding organisations: Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and the European Union
Project duration: 03/2025 - 02/2028
The aim of the Construct-X project is to increase productivity, efficiency and transparency in the construction industry and in construction projects. Aspects of sustainability and resource conservation are also to be effectively realised. The consistent use of data is a key factor for this, which has so far only been partially implemented in the diverse and heterogeneously organised construction industry. Construct-X aims to make an important contribution to ensuring that future investments in the planning, construction and operation of infrastructure and building construction achieve significantly more and better output.
The Department of Digital Design, Construction and Operation (DPBB) at the university of Wuppertal is leading the first work package in Construct-X, in which standards for process and data models for use cases are being developed. The chair is also in charge of the "material data passports" use case.
The Institute for Technologies and Management of Digital Transformation (TMDT) at the University of Wuppertal is responsible for implementing semantic interoperability in data spaces and, in a further work package, for managing and supporting application development based on the developed semantic data space.
In the three-year research project, digital standards, tools and processes are being developed by a network of almost 40 partners. The Construct-X network team is made up of well-known companies from the construction industry, the skilled trades, IT technology and research and university institutions. Key construction industry and trade associations are also involved.
Among other things, Construct-X develops data rooms based on open source principles, a cloud-based open source reference architecture and cloud edge applications relevant to the construction sector. This also includes the development of technologies for the multi-provider cloud edge continuum, which will enable latency-free and secure processing of data on construction sites.
Construct-X is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and the European Union and is part of the EU initiative IPCEI-CIS, Important Project of Common European Interest - Next Generation Cloud Infrastructure and Services. Construct-X is thus part of the EU strategy to strengthen Europe's digital sovereignty.
