DPBB - Digital planning, construction and operation

Description and background to the BUW process model

In addition to the BIM Institute's numerous research projects, the focus is on the BUW process model, which has been developed since mid-2015 in collaboration with the BIM Institute's scientists and partners from various areas of the construction and real estate industry and is constantly being refined. The aim is to map the processes and information flow over the entire life cycle of a property in a generally valid way in order to derive specific digitization approaches for the industry, among other things.

The special feature of the process model is its structure. While many other process models focus on task responsibility, the main focus of the BIM Institute's model is on the flow of information. This means that the clear link between generated and required information is at the forefront. The advantage of the chosen modeling method is the resulting possibilities for analyzing the processes. For example, inconsistencies or redundancies in the flow of information between project participants can be identified. In addition, digital tools and their interfaces can be specifically developed for partial parts of the process chain in the context of comprehensive data consistency.
